Description: A sketch made by the French officer and explorer Joseph Gallieni, who traveled through the Western Sudan between 1886 and 1888. His rough sketch was reworked into a wood engraving by an artist in Paris and published with Gallieni's account in 1891. This sketch contains the caption, "Cavalier toucouleur. (Voir p. 54.)"
