Service Delivery

Governed by a district municipality, the general state of service delivery in Maandagshoek is appalling and by many accounts worse than pre-1994. Residents are extremely negative in their views on service delivery in the community and although many claim that service delivery is non-existent, others are of the opinion that its development is a slow process due to the municipality being fairly new (2000) and lacking in resources. Residents believe their drinking water is not safe and that they should be provided with paved roads. Even though electricity brings a certain amount of improvement to the lives of residents, they believe they should not have to pay for the provision of basics such as water and electricity. Rammolutsi also falls under a district municipality with most houses and shacks having pre-paid electricity meters and yard water taps. Although the roll-out of proper sanitation is proceeding slowly, the bucket system remains in use for a large numbers of shack dwellers. Sebokeng falls under the Lekoa-Vaal municipality and basic service provision is perhaps better than in most smaller non-urban communities. Residents, however, are largely critical of the municipality's ability to deliver.
