Biography: Born in 1953 in Ziguinchor, Casamance, Senegal, Matar Kamara grew up in the region where he attended Qur'anic school and studied the Arabic language. He currently teaches Arabic in a local school in the city of Ziguinchor, and regularly participates in interfaith dialogues between Muslims and Christians in the city. He belongs to the Gaabu-Mansuwan sub-group of the Senegambian Mandinka ethnic group.
