Description: La dynastie Kounta: Leurs grandes oeuvres en Afrique et au Sénégal Par Serigne Bou Khalifa Kounta

Mr. Bou Khalifa Kounta provides a rich overview of the genesis and development of the Qadiriyya Sufi order, beginning with Abdou Khadr al-Jilani who left Iran to study in Iraq to Cheikh Sidi Makhtar al-Kountiyu, who institutionalized the Path in western Africa and initiated Cheikh Sidiyya Baba al-Kabir (ca. 1780-1868) of Mauritania into this Sufi Path. Serigne Kounta points out that Serigne Touba, founder of the Muridiyya, speaks about this genealogy in one of his poems. He also discusses how Cheikh Bounama Kounta, founder of Ndankh, brought the Qadiriyya to Senegal in 1800 and how it spread in Senegambia and in the sub-region.

Serigne Bou Khalifa Kounta is an Arabic teacher at a middle school (CEM) in Guediawaye, Senegal, and has conducted extensive research on family history. He frequently speaks at conferences and public events.
